Residential Energy Affordability Program (REAP)

Through the Residential Energy Affordability program, we provide low-income homeowners in Nova Scotia with energy efficiency upgrades to their home, at no charge to the homeowner.

This program helps low-income homeowners enjoy increased comfort and reduced energy bills, by as much as 30 per cent every year.

What kinds of upgrades are made to the home?

To improve the energy efficiency of the home, we arrange for energy upgrades that may include:

• Installing insulation in the basement, attic, crawlspaces, and exposed floors and walls
• Draft-proofing windows, doors, attic hatches, electrical outlets, and other major sources of heat loss
• Installing programmable thermostats

Who is eligible?

Participants have to meet specific low-income standards.

In Nova Scotia, the Department of Community Services uses income standards that are set by the federal government.

Participants also have to own a home in need of energy efficiency upgrades.

How do I apply?

There is no application for the Residential Energy Affordability Program.

Participants come from the Department of Community Services’ list of homeowners that have already been pre-approved for other home repairs. Program participants are referred from this list.
